“ME TIME” THE KEY TO A HAPPIER , HEALTHIER, MORE PRODUCTIVE LIFE (If only it were that easy! )

“ME TIME” THE KEY TO A HAPPIER , HEALTHIER, MORE PRODUCTIVE LIFE (If only it were that easy! )

Me time, while very important to a happy, healthy, productive life, is very hard to explain. In other words, it is complicated. The main reason it is so complicated is because there are so many different types of me time. Not only are there different types, but it really gets complicated when we realize that it is different for men than women and is greatly determined by our age and socioeconomic status.

Please keep in mind that as we take this Journey and discuss “ME TIME” … Walking Horse Club Ky is in no way an expert in this area and we would love to hear from you. We are all on the Journey together.

So where do we begin? Let’s begin with you. You are a unique individual and there is no one else in the world that is just like you. No matter who you are, you probably have at least two types of work that you perform on most days. You have your occupation, and then you have your domestic work. In other words, you have a job that provides you with food, clothing, shelter, & luxury . Yet there are many jobs that have to be done each and every day, or week, just to keep your household running smoothly.

Talk about complicated, we haven’t even mentioned our family. When you think about spending 40 hours a week at a public job, 20 to 30 hours a week with domestic work, and then throw in the time we spend with family… (kids, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, and friends) It leaves us wondering… How could I possibly have any Me Time?

We told you it was complicated, and believe me when I tell you that is just the beginning. Men on an average actually get 29 hours per week to do what they want while women only get 24 hours. To complicate matters even more, don’t forget that women, as a rule, are much better at multi-tasking than men.

It is at this point in the article when we make an attempt to realize that while “me time” is very important to our health, there are at least two types of “me time”.

The first category of “me time” is the time you spend doing things you enjoy doing with other people. You have to decide what this includes. For me it means the time I spend playing golf, playing poker with the boys, going out to eat with friends and all of the social events that I enjoy attending. What do you enjoy doing with other people? Keep in mind that this “me time” is essential and you must make time for this part of your life in order to lead a happy, productive, & healthy life.

The second category is just as important as the first and will be the key to your happiness. The second category of “me time” is the time you spend completely by yourself. When spent wisely this time will: reboot your brain, help you unwind, improve your concentration, make you more productive, aid in problem solving, give you time for self discovery and deep thinking, and enhance your relationships.

This complete “me time” is different for each of us. For some it means a long walk by ourselves, for others it is a bike ride or a lunch in the park. The great part about this “me time” is that you get to decide. Please realize that it is not the quantity of “me time” but rather the quality. Many of us use reading as a way to completely recharge while others prefer meditation.

This time is important and you may decide to get up early in the morning before anyone else is out of bed or you may choose the time after everyone else has gone to bed.

The last little thoughts that we want to share with you are just as important to your happy, healthy, productive life.
You must sleep well, eat well, & hydrate. While these seem simple enough, many times we get into habits that are detrimental to being happy, healthy, and productive.

Talk about complicated… let me tell you, sometimes we are the healthiest, happiest, and most productive, when we spend time helping someone else.
